1 – He’s an idiot because your bachelor lifestyle is 1000 x’s better
2 – That he’s incredibly lucky and you’re inlove with his wife
3 – You’ve absolutely no idea what to say to him at all

Well, even if 1 or 2 apply it’s best not to go that route for a lot of obvious reasons. However, you’re lucky as groom friends and family get the great short speeches and toasts.

If you’re a jokester, terrific. This is the perfect opportunity to make a quick joke, tell them you love them both and that you wish them all the luck.
If you’re not a joking man, do the same thing except without the joke.

Speeches from the groom’s friends and family do not have to be epic length speeches. You want to show your appreciation and you want to let them know hope for them the best.

Whatever it is that comes out should be from the heart.
And to start off your toast, just grab everyone’s attention real quick and say, “I just wanted to say real quick…”

However if there’s a lot you want to say and you’re comfortable with it then go for it. Just don’t bore people.

Wedding speeches tie in everything together. You have tons of people to thank and acknowledge, a bride’s family to comfort (letting them know how much you appreciate your bride and how’ll you’ll take care of her), and THEN propose a toast. All without fumbling it up and boring people.

Not only that, but it’s a special place and time where you get to say to your bride or groom what they mean to you infront of everyone.

So how long does it need to be then? It needs to be long enough to for you to say what’s basically in your heart. This does not need to be a huge speech and not everyone at the wedding wants or needs to know the whole story.

Keep your vow concise, and think of the top 3 reasons as to why you’re marrying this person, the most important reasons. Your vow doesn’t even need to be a minute long; your bride or groom is going to know how much you love them in your eyes and the audience will hear it.

In fact, the shorter and more to the point they actually are, the more your guests will appreciate and remember the vows.

So please, ladies and fellas… don’t bore the hell out of us, okay?

The Groom Speech – Wedding Vows

When the grooms actually start their wedding groom speeches, they feel a lot more comfortable and that small paragraph they had written down actually becomes an essay. That’s generally where most of these guys mess up.  They tend to fumble on words… it basically becomes a really bad oral speech you’d hear from a high school.

This is why it’s just generally better to really start writing your wedding speech a long time before the date.  There can be a lot of notes (A LOT) for your speech and that’s okay.  If you need to say anything off the top of your head that’s fine too (it looks more dramatic… laying your head down and looking at your wife or the audience).

It can be a little tough for the groom. Wedding speech problems are a big thing but what it comes down to is just saying why you’re marrying this woman.

Out of all the weddings I’ve attended, I think about half of the groom speech were written the day before.  I got into a big habit of being really friendly with the males at the weddings.  These guys are usually so nervous they spill their guts out about everything.

I finally got enough nerves to start questioning the grooms and father of the grooms.  It wasn’t like I was creating a journal, or writing a story for the Times, but I was really curious. Actually I probably could write a book on the art of writing the groom speech.

What do you say on your wedding day? It has to be THE groom speech… the BEST groom speech ever, right? Then why did half of the groom wait until the last minute to write it?

The answer was usually the same: they couldn’t get inspired until the last minute.  The night before it dawned on them what they would be doing tomorrow, and it reminded them of how much they loved their soon to be wives.

A few of these guys just bought their father / groom speech because they knew what they wanted to say, they just didn’t know how to word it. Didn’t have any speech ideas so to speak  They’d edit it to make it their own, and no one could tell, not even I.

Coming up with the grooms speech is more nerve wrecking than the bridal one.  Women are just better at that sort of thing.

Just don’t try to be funny. Even if you’re the comedian of the family (because then it’ll be expected).  Leave the funny speeches for the best man speech.
